Teacher Resume: Sample, Format and Skills for Indian Schools, Colleges and Edtech (2026)

Most teacher resumes in India are a list of degrees followed by "taught Physics to classes XI and XII". A principal learns nothing from that they did not know from the job title. This guide shows how to write a teacher resume that carries evidence: board results, lesson planning, lab and co-curricular ownership, and the qualifications (B.Ed, CTET, NET) each type of institution screens for. School, college, coaching or edtech: who is reading and what they want

"Teacher" covers four very different employers, and the same resume will not work for all of them. Decide who you are writing for first.

A principal cares that your Class XII average went up and that you ran the science exhibition; an edtech recruiter cares that you held a 4.8 rating across 900 live sessions. Your headline should change accordingly: "PGT Physics · CBSE · 7 years · Class XII board average 84%" for a school, "Physics Educator · 900+ live sessions · JEE and Class XI–XII" for edtech. B.Ed, CTET, NET, and the PRT / TGT / PGT distinction

Indian school hiring is level-based, and the level determines which qualifications are checked. Put your level in the headline and make the education section prove you are eligible for it.

Write qualifications in full with year and institution: "B.Ed — University of Rajasthan, 2019", "CTET Paper II (Science) — qualified, Dec 2019", under a "Qualifications" heading rather than buried in Education. If your B.Ed is through distance mode (IGNOU, for example), say so; schools check, and it is accepted for most private-school roles.

Use the exact title from the advertisement. A school hiring "PGT Physics" searches its inbox for that phrase, and so does the applicant-tracking system at a school chain. Your Naukri headline should contain the level and subject too.

Turning lesson planning and results into achievements

Teachers produce more measurable output than most professions, and almost none of it reaches the resume. What to count:

• Board results: "Class XII Physics (CBSE) average 84% in 2025–26, up from 77%; 21 of 58 students scored 90+." State class, board, year and base.
• Competitive-exam outcomes: students from your section who qualified JEE Main, NEET or Olympiad stages, with counts.
• Lesson planning: "Prepared 180+ lesson plans for classes XI–XII mapped to CBSE competency-based assessment; adopted as the department template." Planning is an achievement when others adopt it.
• Assessment design: unit tests, pre-boards, rubrics, question banks; papers set and whether they were used school-wide.
• Remedial and enrichment work: a remedial group's pass rate, an Olympiad cohort's results, a peer-tutoring scheme you started.
• Lab and resource ownership: lab in-charge, Atal Tinkering Lab coordinator, digital content created, library or ICT charge.
• Co-curricular and administrative: house master, exhibition convenor, CBSE examiner, timetable committee, exam-centre duties.
• Parent engagement: PTM attendance, a mentoring programme, counselling referrals handled.

Each bullet follows verb + what + for whom + result. "Handled classes XI and XII" becomes "Taught Physics to 4 sections of classes XI–XII (58–62 students each); raised the Class XII board average from 77% to 84% over two batches."

Teacher resume sample: PGT Physics, Jaipur (7 years, CBSE school)

A physics teacher who started as TGT Science in Jodhpur and moved to a PGT role at a CBSE school in Jaipur: headline, summary, experience with quantified bullets, then qualifications and training.

Notice what is missing: no father's name, date of birth, marital status or "hobbies: reading". Those belong on a biodata if a school asks for that format. Teacher resume keywords by employer type

School chains, edtech companies and job portals filter on keywords before a human reads anything. Use the ones that are true for you, phrased as the advertisement phrases them.

Fresher B.Ed resume: what to show when you have no job yet

A fresh B.Ed graduate has more evidence than they think: a school internship (usually 16 to 20 weeks), micro-teaching, lesson-plan files, community work and often an action-research project. Use the fresher resume format and build it like this.

1. Headline naming level and subject: "TGT Mathematics (fresher) · B.Ed 2026 · CTET Paper II qualified".
2. Objective, two lines, specific: which classes, which board, one thing you bring; see career objective examples. Skip "dynamic and passionate".
3. Teaching practice as experience: "School Internship — [School] (CBSE), Jan–May 2026: taught Mathematics to classes VI–VIII (4 sections), delivered 48 planned lessons, set and evaluated two unit tests, graded A by the supervising teacher."
4. Projects and files: action-research topic and finding, teaching aids built, ICT lesson created. One line each.
5. Education with percentages: B.Ed, graduation, Class XII and X, with board or university and year. Schools still look at subject marks.
6. Qualifications: CTET or state TET with paper and year, any computer or language certification.
7. Extras that help: home tuition described with student numbers and outcomes, NCC/NSS, sports coaching.

Tips for international schools (IB, Cambridge, CBSE-international)

International schools in India and the Gulf hire through a different lens.

• Name the curriculum and your role in it: "IB DP Physics HL/SL, 3 years" or "Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level Physics". Claim IB workshop training only if you have completed it.
• Use their vocabulary: unit planners, inquiry-based learning, approaches to learning (ATL), criterion-referenced assessment, internal assessment moderation, extended essay supervision.
• Include a two-line teaching philosophy under the summary. International school heads read it; CBSE principals mostly skip it.
• Add safeguarding and child-protection training if you have it; overseas schools ask for it and for police verification.
• Mention pastoral roles: homeroom or advisory teacher, CAS supervisor, house system, boarding duties.
• Two pages are normal for experienced candidates, and a short cover letter to the head of school is expected.
• References matter: international schools usually want two, including your current head.

Teacher resume mistakes that lose the interview

1. Leading with personal details. Date of birth, father's name, religion and marital status at the top of page one is biodata, not a resume. Schools that need them will ask on their own form.
2. "Taught Physics to XI and XII" with no numbers. Every teacher of that level did the same. Add results, section sizes and what you changed.
3. Listing 25 workshops. Keep the four or five that match the role and summarise the rest.
4. No level or board in the headline. A school hiring a TGT Science cannot tell from "Science Teacher, 6 years" whether you have handled board classes.
5. Claiming the school's aggregate result as your own. Quote only sections you taught; principals compare notes.
6. Decorative templates. Chalkboard graphics, apple icons and two-column layouts do not parse in the portals school chains and edtech companies use; the ATS resume guide explains what breaks.
7. Unnamed files or Word files with tracked changes. Export to PDF named "Pooja-Choudhary-PGT-Physics.pdf". If a school insists on Word, follow the Word format guide.
8. One resume for every employer. Applying to a coaching institute and a CBSE school? Change the headline, summary and first three bullets each time.

Frequently asked questions

Is CTET compulsory to mention on a teacher resume?

If you have qualified it, always mention it with the paper (I for classes 1–5, II for classes 6–8) and the year; many CBSE-affiliated schools shortlist on it for PRT and TGT roles. If you have not qualified it, leave it out rather than writing "appearing". For PGT roles, the subject master's degree and B.Ed matter more than CTET.

Should a teacher resume include a photo?

Corporate-style schools, edtech companies and international schools do not expect one, and the applicant-tracking systems used by school chains cannot read it. Some smaller private schools and government-format applications ask for a photo explicitly; add it only when the advertisement asks.

How do I show board results without exaggerating?

Use figures you can back with the school's result sheet: class average, number of students scoring 90+ or 95+, pass percentage, and improvement over the previous year. Say which class, which board and which year. Do not claim a school-wide result that you did not teach.

What is the difference between PRT, TGT and PGT on a resume?

PRT teaches primary classes (typically 1–5) and needs a graduation with B.Ed or D.El.Ed; TGT teaches classes 6–10 and needs a graduation in the subject plus B.Ed; PGT teaches classes 11–12 and needs a post-graduation in the subject plus B.Ed. Put the level in your headline and match the job title in the advertisement exactly.

Can I move from coaching or edtech to a school with the same resume?

Change the emphasis. Schools want evidence of classroom management, lesson planning, board-pattern assessment and co-curricular involvement; coaching and edtech resumes lean on selection ratios, batch sizes and ratings. Rewrite the top half for the school reader and keep your strongest results from coaching as quantified bullets.
