Resume Format for Freshers in India (2026): Section Order, Two Full Samples and What to Write With No Experience

You have a degree, maybe an internship, a few projects and a college committee or two. That is enough for a strong one-page resume if you order it correctly and write it in results, not duties. Here is the exact format, with two complete fresher samples you can model yours on.

What to put on a resume when you have no work experience

Recruiters hiring freshers do not expect experience. They expect evidence that you can learn, finish things and work with people. Each item below is that kind of evidence, written the way a professional writes a job bullet: what you did, with what, and what came of it.

If you have none of these yet, start a two-week project today: a dashboard from a public dataset, a website for a family shop, or a cost analysis of a local business.

Section order for a fresher resume

Experienced candidates lead with work history. Freshers flip the order so that education and projects, their strongest material, sit in the top half of the page.

#SectionWhat goes in it
1HeaderName, target role, city, one phone, one email, LinkedIn. GitHub for developers.
2ObjectiveTwo lines: the role you want and the two or three things that make you fit for it.
3EducationDegree first, then 12th and 10th in a compact table if you are applying to campus drives or mass recruiters.
4Projects or InternshipWhichever is stronger goes first. Two or three projects, or one internship with bullets.
5SkillsGrouped: tools, technical or domain skills, languages. Match the job description.
6Positions of responsibility and achievementsPoRs, hackathons, competitions, NSS/NCC, scholarships, rank in class if in the top ten percent.
7CertificationsName, issuer, year.

The one-page rule

A fresher resume is one page, because nothing you have done yet justifies a second and the recruiter at a mass drive will not turn over. If you are spilling on to page two, remove the declaration, personal details, hobbies, and any project without an outcome; then tighten margins to 1.8 cm and body text to 10.5 pt.

Objective vs summary: which one for a fresher

Use an objective. A summary compresses a track record, and you do not have one yet; an objective names the role and gives the recruiter two reasons to keep reading. Keep it to two lines and make it specific to the job.

Weak: "To secure a challenging position in a reputed organisation where I can utilise my skills and grow with the company." Every fresher in India has written this line. It says nothing.

Better: "B.Com graduate (2026, 74%) seeking an Accounts Executive role. Six-month articleship-style internship at a CA firm handling GST returns and bank reconciliations for 20 clients; proficient in Tally Prime and Excel."

Better, for tech: "BCA graduate (2026, 8.2 CGPA) targeting a Technical Support or Junior Developer role. Built two Python and JavaScript web apps with live users, comfortable with SQL, Linux and ticketing tools."

More field-specific phrasings are on the career objective for resume page. If a company's form asks for a "headline" instead, see resume headline examples.

The academics table format

Campus placements and mass recruiters (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and similar) usually have marks-based eligibility, so they want 10th, 12th and graduation figures visible at a glance. A three-row block does it without eating space. Use tab stops rather than a Word table, because tables sometimes confuse parsers; the builder renders it as clean text.

QualificationInstitution / BoardYearScore
B.ComLucknow University202674.2%
Class XII (Commerce)CBSE202381%
Class XCBSE202185%

Give CGPA if your university awards it. Never round up. Applying off-campus to startups or small firms, you can drop the school rows, especially if those marks are below 60%. The full decision table is in the how to write a resume guide.

Achievements & certifications

Both samples came out of the builder's fresher profile with the sample content replaced. For roles with more demanding technical sections, the software engineer resume and data analyst resume pages show what to add. Before sending either, check your resume's ATS score free to see what the parser extracts.

Fresher resume mistakes: photo, date of birth, father's name, declaration

Most of these come from copying an older relative's biodata. None are needed for private-sector hiring, and each costs space.

ItemWhen it is not neededWhen to include
PhotoAll private-sector applications in India. Recruiters do not need it and some companies discard photo resumes to avoid bias.Only when a form has a photo field, or for hospitality, airline and some Gulf roles that explicitly ask.
Date of birthCorporate and startup roles. Age is not a hiring criterion and the ATS ignores it.Government, PSU and bank applications, which have age limits and collect it in the form anyway.
Father's or mother's nameEvery private-sector resume. It is a biodata field with no relevance to your candidacy.Only in a government form or a biodata format when specifically required.
Declaration ("I hereby declare…")Every resume. Recruiters do not read it, and it takes two to four lines plus a signature block.Government forms and some college placement-cell templates that insist on it.
Nationality, marital status, religion, casteEvery private-sector resume.Reservation-category fields in government applications, handled in the form.
HobbiesWhen they are "reading, music, travelling".When they prove a skill: a state-level sport, a blog with readers, a published photograph.

Also drop: star ratings for skills, "Fresher" as your title (write the target role), MS Word and "internet browsing" as skills, and two-column templates that parsers read out of order.

Campus placement vs off-campus applications

Campus placements

Follow the placement cell's template if a company requires it, but keep your own clean version for everything else. Include the full academics table because eligibility is checked from it, and name the file as instructed (often RollNo_Name.pdf). The same resume goes to every company in the drive, so write the objective for your broad target ("software roles") rather than one company. Run through the campus placement resume checklist the night before.

Off-campus and job portals

You are now competing with every college, so tailor the objective and skills for each job. On Naukri, fill the profile completely, because recruiters search by keywords and a half-filled profile does not surface; see the Naukri headline guide. On LinkedIn, set your headline to the role you want, not "Student at XYZ College". A short cover letter or email body helps at small companies where a person, not a system, reads applications.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best resume format for a fresher in India?

A one-page, single-column, reverse-chronological resume with this order: header, objective, education (with an academics table if you are applying to campus drives), projects, internships, skills, positions of responsibility and achievements, certifications. Put whichever of projects or internships is stronger first.

Should a fresher resume be one page?

Yes. With no work history there is nothing that justifies a second page, and recruiters at campus drives and mass recruiters skim hundreds of profiles. If you are spilling over, cut the declaration, personal details and any project that has no outcome to report.

Do I need to write a declaration on my resume?

No. The line I hereby declare that the above information is true, followed by place, date and signature, belongs to biodata and government application forms. Private-sector recruiters do not expect it, and it uses two to four lines you need for projects.

Should I put my photo, date of birth or father's name on a fresher resume?

Not for private-sector jobs. These are biodata fields. Add them only when a specific application form, a government or PSU posting, or a Gulf employer explicitly asks for them. The same applies to nationality, marital status and religion.

What can I write if I have no projects or internships?

Start one now. A two-week project such as a spreadsheet dashboard from public data, a small website, or an analysis of a local business is enough to fill the section. Also include coursework with practical output, positions of responsibility, volunteering with NSS or NCC, and any certifications you have completed.

Is a resume the same as a CV or biodata for freshers?

In Indian private-sector hiring the words resume and CV are used interchangeably and both mean the one-page document described here. Biodata is a different, personal-details document used for government forms and matrimonial purposes. If a college placement cell asks for a CV, send this resume.
