Marketing Resume: Sample, Format and Skills for India (2026)
Marketing measures everything and then writes resumes with no numbers in them: "managed social media handles", "executed campaigns", "worked on brand awareness". A hiring manager wants to know which channels you ran, on what budget, and what moved: ROAS, CAC, CTR, leads, traffic, share of voice. This guide separates digital, brand, performance and content resumes, lists the metrics for each, shows which certifications and portfolio links count, and walks through a complete Performance Marketing Manager sample from a Mumbai D2C brand.
Digital vs brand vs performance vs content: pick a lane on paper
"Marketing" on a job portal covers four different jobs with different readers. Declare which one you are in the headline and prove it with the right metrics; a resume that claims all four with none of the numbers reads as none of them.
| Digital marketing (generalist) | Brand marketing | Performance marketing | Content and SEO | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What the job is | Runs the online presence: social, email, SEO basics, some paid | Owns positioning, campaigns, launches, agency media, brand health | Buys paid media, judged on cost and return: Meta, Google, Amazon, affiliates | Produces and ranks content; owns organic traffic and engagement |
| Metrics that prove it | Follower and engagement growth, email open and click rates, website traffic, leads from digital | Brand-track lifts (awareness, consideration), share of voice, campaign reach, launch distribution and sell-through, market share movement | ROAS, MER, CAC, CPL, CPI, CTR, CVR, spend managed, blended vs channel-level returns | Organic sessions, keyword rankings, backlinks, content-assisted leads, watch time, subscriber growth |
Brand roles at large companies are still filled mostly through MBA campus placements (see the MBA resume guide). Performance, content and digital roles are open to anyone with an account they have run and numbers to show for it.
The metrics that belong on a marketing resume
Numbers on a marketing resume show that you know which metric matters for the goal, and that you moved it. Vanity metrics (impressions, likes) tell a hiring manager you measured the wrong thing.
| Metric | What it means | How to write it on the resume | Trap |
|---|---|---|---|
| ROAS / MER | Revenue per rupee of ad spend (channel-level) and marketing efficiency ratio (total revenue over total spend) | "Blended ROAS from 2.4x to 3.6x over 12 months while monthly spend scaled 60%" | Platform-reported ROAS without mentioning attribution; a rising ROAS at falling spend |
| CAC / CPA | Cost to acquire one new customer or one conversion | "First-order CAC cut from ₹690 to ₹455 through creative testing and audience exclusions" | Quoting CAC on a mix that includes repeat buyers |
| CTR / CVR | Click-through rate on ads or emails; conversion rate on the landing page | "Raised Search CTR from 3.1% to 5.4% by restructuring to single-theme ad groups" | Reporting CTR as an outcome on its own; it is a diagnostic |
| Traffic and rankings | Organic sessions, keywords in top 10 | "Organic sessions 2.3x in 9 months; 140 keywords added to page one" | Traffic with no mention of what it fed |
Where you cannot disclose figures, use ratios and multiples ("2.3x", "cut by roughly a third"). Where you were one contributor, name your specific lever; hiring managers have seen too many resumes claim the whole company's growth.
Portfolio links and certifications that count
What to link
- A one-page case-study document (Notion, Google Doc or PDF) with three or four campaigns: objective, budget band, what you did, result, and a dashboard screenshot with sensitive figures blurred. The most useful link a performance marketer can add.
- Content samples for content roles: three to five live URLs you wrote or led, with the traffic or engagement each earned.
- A brand campaign reel or deck for brand roles: brief, creative, media plan summary and brand-track result.
- LinkedIn with a custom URL and a headline that matches the resume; mirror the same words in your Naukri headline.
- Personal website only if it is current and mobile-friendly. An abandoned blog does more harm than no site.
Which certifications matter, and where to put them
| Certification | Worth listing for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads certifications (Search, Display, Shopping, Video, Measurement) | Performance and digital roles | Free through Skillshop; list the specific tracks, not "Google certified" |
| Google Analytics (GA4) certification | Every marketing role | Recruiters search for GA4 by name |
| Meta Blueprint (Certified Media Buying Professional, Digital Marketing Associate) | Performance and social roles | The paid professional exams carry more weight than the free short courses |
| HubSpot Academy (Inbound, Content Marketing, Email Marketing) | Content, B2B and SaaS roles | Free; recognised by SaaS recruiters |
| Amazon Ads certification | E-commerce and D2C marketplace roles | Increasingly asked for by D2C brands selling on marketplaces |
Put certifications after skills for freshers and after education for experienced marketers, with the year. A resume that is half certificates reads as someone who has studied marketing rather than done it.
Sample marketing resume (Performance Marketing Manager, D2C, Mumbai, 5 years)
A performance marketer who spent two and a half years at an agency before moving in-house to a D2C apparel brand. Agency clients are described by category and scale rather than name, and every bullet pairs a spend figure with a return.
Ritika Sanghvi
Summary
Performance marketer with 5 years across agency and in-house D2C. Manage a ₹1.4 crore monthly media budget across Meta, Google and Amazon for an apparel brand; blended ROAS up from 2.4x to 3.6x in a year while spend scaled 60%. Strong on attribution setup, creative testing cadence and lifecycle programmes that lower blended CAC.
Experience
- Own a ₹1.4 crore monthly media budget across Meta, Google (Search, Shopping, Performance Max) and Amazon Ads; improved blended ROAS from 2.4x to 3.6x over 12 months while scaling spend 60%.
- Cut first-order CAC from ₹690 to ₹455 by restructuring Meta into Advantage+ shopping campaigns, running 30+ creative variations a month and excluding 90-day purchasers from prospecting.
- Built the WhatsApp and email lifecycle programme (Klaviyo, Interakt) that now contributes 21% of monthly revenue at under 4% of media spend, with a 90-day repeat rate up from 18% to 27%.
- Set up server-side tracking (Meta Conversions API, GA4, GTM) and a weekly MER dashboard in Looker Studio that replaced platform-reported ROAS as the finance team's reference figure.
- Ran Google and Meta accounts for 9 clients across edtech, fintech and home services with combined monthly spend of about ₹80 lakh; 8 of the 9 accounts were retained through my tenure.
- Reduced cost per lead for a listed edtech client from ₹410 to ₹230 in 5 months through search-query mining, single-theme ad groups, landing-page changes and lead-form pre-qualification, with qualified-lead share held above 40%.
- Tripled a home-services marketplace's leads quarter-on-quarter at flat spend by launching location-level campaigns across 14 Mumbai and Thane micro-markets.
- Trained 4 junior executives on account structure and reporting; the weekly reporting template was adopted agency-wide.

Fresher tips: getting a marketing resume past the screen with no job history
Marketing is one of the easiest functions to build proof for before you have a job, and one of the most competitive at entry level because of that. Institutes turn out thousands of certified freshers a year with identical resumes; be the one with evidence.
- Run one real account, however small. ₹3,000 on Meta for a relative's shop or a college fest gives you CTR, CPC and a result. "Ran a ₹4,500 Meta campaign for a Pune cafe: 2.9% CTR, 61 direction requests, 14 table bookings attributed" is worth more than three certificates.
- Turn college roles into marketing bullets. Fest sponsorship, club social media, event registrations: quantify reach, sign-ups and money raised.
- List certifications with the specific track and year, after projects. The fresher resume format shows where each section sits.
- Write a two-line summary, not an objective. "Digital marketing fresher who has run Meta and Google campaigns on a ₹40,000 combined budget for two local businesses; GA4 and Google Ads certified; looking for a performance marketing role in Mumbai." If you want an objective line, our career objective guide keeps it specific.
- Attach a case-study link and a short cover note. One Notion page with account screenshots and what you learned is what an agency hiring manager opens first; the cover letter page has marketing examples.
Mistakes that get marketing resumes rejected
- No numbers. "Managed social media and ran campaigns" describes every marketing job on earth. Add the channel, the budget, the metric and the movement.
- Vanity metrics as outcomes. Impressions, likes and follower counts without a link to leads, sales or brand health tell a hiring manager you measured what was easy.
- Claiming the company's growth. "Grew revenue 300%" from a marketing executive invites the question of what you personally did. Name your lever.
- A creative two-column template with icons and skill bars. It looks like a marketer made it and parses like a broken spreadsheet. Use a clean single-column design from our templates.
- Naming agency clients under NDA. Use category and scale ("a listed edtech brand") unless you have permission.
- Buzzword summaries. "Passionate, creative, data-driven storyteller" is the marketing version of "dynamic go-getter". State what you run and what it returns.
- Biodata fields. Photo, date of birth, father's name and marital status belong on a biodata; agencies and brands do not want them.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an MBA to get a marketing job in India?
For brand management at large FMCG and consumer companies, an MBA from a well-known institute is still the usual entry route through campus placement. For digital, performance, content, SEO and growth roles at startups, D2C brands and agencies, nobody checks; what matters is accounts you have run, numbers you have moved and certifications you can back up in an interview.
What ROAS or CAC figure should I put on my resume?
Your real one, with context. ROAS and CAC vary so much by category, price point and channel that a bare number means little. Show the change you drove (from 2.4x to 3.6x over twelve months) and the spend it happened at, or state performance against the target you were given. A hiring manager in your category will know whether the movement is impressive.
Is a Google Ads certification enough to get a marketing job as a fresher?
It gets your resume past a keyword filter; it does not get you hired. Every fresher applying for a digital marketing role has the Google, HubSpot and Meta certificates. Pair them with one account you have actually run, even on a few thousand rupees for a family business or a college event, and write what you learned from the numbers.
Should my title say digital marketing or performance marketing?
Match the job description you are targeting. Digital marketing is the broad term recruiters search on Naukri; performance marketing means paid acquisition judged on ROAS, CAC and cost per lead. If your work is mostly paid media, put performance marketing in the headline and digital marketing in the skills line so both searches find you.
How do I show impact in a brand or content role with no direct revenue numbers?
Use the measures the role does own: brand-track lifts in awareness or consideration, share of voice, organic traffic and rankings, engagement and reach, content output and its downstream leads, campaign reach and earned media, and the launches you ran. Add what changed as a result, such as a product line that hit distribution targets or a content cluster that became the top organic entry point.
